Facilitating Difficult Classroom Conversations

It recommends pausing to let students reflect in writing, normalizing the importance of tough topics while reinforcing class norms, reframing discussion toward principles rather than personal attacks, summarizing key points to synthesize understanding, and encouraging ongoing learning and support-seeking. Additional notes emphasize avoiding asking students to speak for their identity groups and being mindful that certain subjects may trigger past trauma.
